Photographs are the most exciting and important visual form of global communication,forming a significant part of everyday life. It is estimated that 3.7 billion people use the Internet and around 1.2 trillion photos were taken in the last year*. The image has become the most widely used international language, and the ability to communicate concise visual statements that engage audiences is at the heart of our courses and teaching.

The Greater Manchester Centre for Photography (PhotoBoltonUni) based at the University of Bolton (Greater Manchester) offers you the freedom to pursue your own photographic interests supported by our industry-experienced tutors and technicians. From September 2021 our range of Photography degrees –Photography, Fashion Photography, Photojournalism and Documentary Photography – offer the opportunity to pursue a unique pathway of visual self-discovery.

Developed in conjunction with a professional industry panel, our courses offer a supportive, market-aware environment, in which you can explore and specialise in variety of photographic genres such as documentary, fashion, editorial, photojournalism, commercial advertising,portraiture, architectural, sport, landscape and fine art.

You will hear from industry experts during guest lectures, have the opportunity to work on placements, ‘live briefs’ and commissions. Our industry links will not only enrich your learning experience but will provide you with invaluable ‘insider’ information and possible employment opportunities. We offer a fully integrated programme of practical and theoretical knowledge that builds confidence and skills, leading to a career in this dynamic industry.
